DSP- Direct Support Professional

A Direct Support Professional, Daily Support Activities Professional, or Community Living Support Professional assists people with intellectual disabilities in living their lives as they choose, participating fully within their community. Responsibilities may include supporting individuals with food preparation, grocery shopping, personal health and hygiene, personal and household shopping, financial management, and required documentation. This position requires ethical behavior, patience, reliability, effective communication, compassion, independence, and adaptability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

• Promote and implement UHI’s mission in the lives of those we support.
• Provide a stable living environment that respects individuals' rights to dignity, choice, input, and safety.
• Maintain dependable, reliable, and regular attendance.
• Take pride in meeting deadlines and producing quality work.
• Perform all duties as a Mandatory Abuse Reporter.
• Respond effectively to emergencies or crises, which may require physical intervention.
• Administer medications as needed without error.
• Complete and maintain all required certifications and training as mandated by UHI and regulatory agencies.
• Maintain CPR and First Aid Certification, every two years.
• Maintain OIS Certification, every two years.
• Complete Core Competencies as required by the state of Oregon.
• Complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of ongoing education every two years.
• Encourage and facilitate community engagement through outings and planned activities.
• Research new program ideas and activities, considering individuals' suggestions.
• Assist with transporting and/or escorting people to, from, and within programs.
• Safely operated vehicles, complying with all traffic and safety regulations.
• Provide assistance as individuals enter and exit the vehicle, including securing wheelchairs with tie-downs.
• Download and use mobile applications as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to schedule and coordinate multiple projects.

• Ability to operate related computer applications and business machines.
• Capacity to interpret various instructions.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to read a variety of materials, including books, magazines, and instruction manuals.
• Skill in preparing written reports with correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Hold a valid Oregon driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to push, pull, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. (Some locations may require more.)
• Pass a State/Federal criminal history check (fingerprints may be required).
• Willingness to submit to a pre-employment drug screening for federally illegal substances.
