In addition to our publishing house, the company maintains the Rizzoli Bookstore—widely considered one of the foremost independent booksellers in America—which specializes in literature, photography, architecture, interior design, culinary, and the fine and applied arts. The bookstore also stocks a selection of Italian, French and Spanish-language fiction and non-fiction literature, a unique find in New York City, located in the trend-setting NOMAD neighborhood.

Who You Are

Human Resources and Payroll Administrator with foundational skills, including recruitment, payroll, and benefits, with experience translating findings into solutions. Spreadsheet skills and HR related forecasting are strongly preferred. Exposure to accounting principles is welcomed.

 

You will join a 75-employee company in Lower Midtown, New York. The ideal candidate should have around three years of experience and be ready to advance their career with a company recognized worldwide for its creative products. The company is preparing the organization for growth, while it absorbs recent acquisitions. This role will report to the Managing Director and work with employees and key contractors, across the organization. This role will lead the management of a new and most welcoming corporate office, with 1 direct report. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively.

What You'll Do

Human Resources Coordination:

  • Assist in recruitment processes, including posting job ads, screening resumes, and scheduling interviews.
  • Maintain employee records and update HR databases.
  • Prepare and manage onboarding paperwork for new hires and conduct new employee orientations.
  • Manage employee benefits administration (healthcare, retirement plans, etc.).
  • Support Professional Employer Organization’s (“PEO”) administrative effort.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and enforcing HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage employee attendance and ensure accurate reporting of paid time off (PTO), sick leave, and other employee absences.
  • Support employee engagement activities, including team-building events.

Procedures Support and Development:

  • Assist with payroll processing and ensure accurate and timely payment.
  • Help maintain financial records and supporting tools related to employee compensation and benefits.
  • Support budget tracking, HR forecast development and reporting.
  • Participate in Development efforts surrounding payroll, benefits, 401k, etc.
  • Prepare HR reports, including turnover rates, recruitment metrics, employee engagement data in support of internal and external reporting.
  • Lead role in office management, supervising one staff.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years in Human Resources, Payroll and Benefits processes and Accounting Principles. 
  • Familiarity with HR software and payroll systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Exposure:

  • Experience working in a setting where you are directly involved with employees.
  • Basic knowledge of labor laws and HR best practices.
  • Familiarity with accounting software welcomed, but not mandatory.
