Who You Are

GeoMark Research is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Rock Lab Technician to join our Humble, TX laboratory team. This entry-level position involves hands-on sample preparation, basic analytical measurements, and general lab support for geochemical projects in the oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a lab environment, is a proactive team player, and possesses strong organizational skills to ensure smooth lab operations.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  • · Sample Preparation and Analysis
    • o Prepare rock samples for routine source rock analyses (TOC and pyrolysis), including crushing and solvent extraction according to standard procedures.
    • o Operate the density meter accurately to measure API gravity on crude oil samples.
    • o Carefully inspect samples and pick/remove Lost Circulation Material (LCM) or other contaminants as needed.
  • · Project Support and Coordination
    • o Create detailed sample inventories using designated software/systems when new projects arrive.
    • o Coordinate with the Lab Manager to ensure samples are processed according to client analytical requests and project timelines.
  • · General Lab Duties
    • o Assist fellow lab technicians with various tasks as needed to maintain efficient rock lab operations.
    • o Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
    • o Follow all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.

What You Bring

Qualifications:

  • · Required:
    • o High school diploma or equivalent.
    • o Comfortable working hands-on in a laboratory setting with rocks, solvents, and lab equipment.
    • o Ability to follow instructions and procedures meticulously.
    • o Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • o Good communication skills and a collaborative, team-player attitude.
    • o Basic computer skills for data entry (e.g., sample inventories).
    • o Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting objects up to 30 pounds and standing for extended periods.
    • o Punctual and reliable work ethic.
  • · Preferred (Nice-to-Have):
    • o Previous experience in a laboratory environment is a plus but not required.
    • o An interest in geology, chemistry, or the energy sector.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.

Work Environment:

This role operates primarily within a laboratory setting. It requires adherence to safety procedures, careful handling of rock samples and chemicals, and operation of lab equipment. The environment is collaborative and involves working closely with other technicians and the Lab Manager. The position requires the ability to lift at least 30 pounds and involves periods of standing, walking, and potentially sitting for specific tasks.
