The Structured Finance Association (SFA) is a large and still growing member-based trade association advocacy group focused on improving and strengthening the broader structured finance market’s ability to provide capital to American households and businesses. SFA provides an inclusive network for securitization professionals to collaborate and, as industry leaders, drive necessary changes, advocate for the lending and capital markets and structured finance community, share best practices and innovative ideas, and educate industry members through conferences and other programs. SFA represents more than 370 institutional members from all sectors of the securitization market including lenders, issuers, investors, financial intermediaries, law firms, accounting firms, technology firms, rating agencies, servicers, and trustees.

Who You Are

The Accounting Associate will play a key role in supporting SFA’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in our accounting processes. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and analytical professional who is eager to optimize financial workflows and collaborate across departments. We are seeking a problem-solver who can connect the dots between accounting and the broader organization, demonstrating initiative, independence, and sound judgment in addressing business needs.

 

This position is based in our Washington, D.C. headquarters.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, forecasts, and maintaining accurate financial data. 
  • Support external accountants with annual audit requests. 
  • Help prepare federal Form 990 and state filings as needed. 
  • Provide financial insights to the executive team and staff to support budget planning and decision-making. 
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes. 
  • Process routine accounting transactions, including journal entries, expense reports, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. 
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and calculate depreciation. 
  • Track intercompany receivables and payables. 
  • Assist in collections efforts. 
  • Prepare 1099 reports for relevant vendors. 
  • Organize and maintain historical financial records, including customer and vendor files, in electronic formats. 
  • Communicate with customers, vendors, staff, and government entities regarding financial matters. 

 

The list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and there may be other activities you are required to deliver depending on business needs. 

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or small business environment. 
  • CPA license. 
  • Proficiency in Sage Intacct (minimum 3 years required). 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the full Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Experience with Salesforce is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with online expense reporting systems is a plus. 
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. 

EDUCATION 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

What We Offer

Salary range $70k-$95k depending on experience and annual discretionary bonus.
