Who You Are

The Director of Business Development (DBD) reports to the CEO and collaborates with the executive staff in strategic planning activities to drive results, spur growth, and increase the overall profitability of the Company. The DBD will also manage all phases of the business development life cycle. The DBD is responsible for providing leadership and guidance in negotiating partnerships and teaming arrangements; establishing and managing project pursuit teams, which may incorporate resources from joint-venture partners. In addition, the DBD ensures that responses to RFQs, and RFPs are executed and submitted on time.

What You'll Do

  • Provide management and leadership that aligns with the Company’s business plan and overall strategic vision.
  • Work closely with the CEO, executive team members, and finance team to drive operational and financial results.
  • Establish challenging and realistic goals for growth, performance, and profitability.
  • Forge strategic partnerships and relationships with a wide network of clients and partners within the broader civil engineering and construction management community, by leveraging personal relationships, existing company relationships, and creating new business relationships.
  • Introduce the Company’s services to prospective clients, including federal, state, and local government agencies; and ensure decision makers understand the benefits of the Company’s services. Build and maintain a pipeline of project opportunities.
  • Oversee the development of marketing materials and tools to support business development.
  • Evaluate potential projects by analyzing market strategies, project requirements, and financials, weighed against potential risk and potential profit.
  • Supervise and assist in the preparation, writing, editing and review of proposal and SOQ content.
  • Supervise the preparation of materials for presentations and interviews.
  • Coach project interview teams.
  • Present projects before municipal boards.
  • Represent the Company at stakeholder meetings, pre-proposal meetings, and “presale” functions that lead to greater opportunities.

What You Bring

  • 10 years of progressive business development and client relationship management experience in the Texas AEC market is required.
  • BS in business, management or any AEC filed. MS or MBA preferred.
  • Experience in the program management and construction management fields with emphasis in public markets, including schools (higher ed and K-12), aviation and infrastructure projects, such as water utilities, roadways, highways, and interchanges.
  • Exceptional presence, business acumen, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain client rapport, debate constructively, and diplomatically challenge client thinking.
  • Strong community interaction and involvement.
  • Creative problem-solving ability, negotiation, and follow-up skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with search engines, Microsoft Office, CRM, and graphic software.
  • Must be an effective leader, skilled communicator, diplomatic, self-motivated, goal-driven, energetic, outgoing, and highly collaborative.
