Who You Are

The Health and Fitness Instructor (HFI) instructs students in both, health and fitness. Through excellent organizational skills and great energy, the HFI supports the academic and personal growth of our students, while making sure all students are successful and develop strong characters. In addition, The HFI leads and directs after school activities and sport teams, and supports staff in the scheduled arrival, mealtime and dismissal duties.

What You'll Do

  • Provide students with a comprehensive Health and Fitness education that includes health related information as outlined in the NYS Standards
  • Encourage student to be physically active
  • Engage students in physical education activities that challenge their mental and physical limits
  • Provide integrated instructions that incorporates both ELA and Math content
  • Support physical fitness activities in classroom to add additional movement per day
  • Take responsibility for recess activities and materials
  • Organize team sports and consultants after school
  • Plan, organize and replenish lesson plans for substitute teachers in case of emergency absence
  • Plan and execute at least 2 events/performances that demonstrate student learning and support school culture and character development
  • Plan and execute the annual school field day
  • Meet all test and data reporting deadlines
  • Maintain anecdotal and formal evaluative records (checklists, anecdotal notes, quiz/test, etc.
  • Contact families via telephone or face to face to inform on student’s progress and keep an updated log of the contact
  • Participate actively in weekly grade level team planning meeting by planning units of study and weekly lessons collaboratively with team teacher(s), specialist and administrators
  • Attend all faculty meetings

What You Bring

  • Attend the annual Hyde 101 Training
  • Demonstrated success working in an urban school setting
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • A Master’s degree in Education or relevant content area (preferred)
  • New York State Certification (Required)

What We Offer

Annual salary range: up to $99k depending on experience.

 

Effective 09/17/2023 NYC passed a Pay Transparency Law which requires NYC based hiring to include a compensation range on each job posting. This compensation range is presented in good faith for candidates that are hired in these roles will be presented a salary within the range stated on the job posting.
