Who We Are

Collective Energy

Collective Energy believes that everyone, no matter who they are or where they live or how much money they have, should have equal and reliable access to health services, even when the power goes out. As a purpose and mission-driven business, Collective Energy aims to enable quality, equitable healthcare services for the medically underserved and the most vulnerable in our communities by ensuring energy reliability, affordability, and resiliency through the development of low-cost solar and storage systems, all while bringing long-term electricity cost savings and offsetting carbon emissions.

Who You Are

At Collective Energy, we are looking for candidates who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves – authentic, purpose-driven individuals who want their career to have a meaningful impact on the world. We want candidates who are strongly motivated, self-directed, thrive on helping develop processes and procedures, and are comfortable with a certain level of uncertainty in this early, fast-paced, and rapidly growing phase of the company. This is an opportunity to help shape the company's future direction, implement systems at scale, raise capital for growth, and support clean, resilient energy projects that make a positive impact on both the climate and the health and well-being of low-income and marginalized individuals across the country.

We are seeking a Microgrid Technical Project Manager to join the team at Collective Energy. We are a small team and are looking for someone to be a “founding team member” of an early-stage, mission-driven solar and storage development and financing company.

The ideal candidate has experience with PV design and associated software for designing, laying out, and modeling systems and experience in energy storage systems (ESS) and in sizing appropriate systems for resilience and load shedding. Our system sizes range from 30kw-300kw PV, and 20kw-200kw ESS. Ideally, the candidate has an engineering background and/or an electrical background (C-10 license, for example). Candidate should also have experience managing contractors, sub-contractors, EPCs, engineers, and experience with permit submissions and working with utilities and AHJs.

We are looking for someone with intellectual curiosity, high motivation, a problem-solving mindset, interest in helping people, and who can efficiently manage multiple priorities while keeping Collective Energy’s and health centers’ best interests in mind. The ideal candidate will also be interested in implementing and using systems for operational sustainability and in helping the company grow from an early-stage startup to the scale we anticipate in the short and long term. And most importantly, follow our company’s North Star: keep the interests of the nonprofit hosts first, and do all we can to provide them with a valuable service and a solution to their problems of power loss, rising power costs, and environmental health challenges.

Candidates in Northeast locations only.

What You'll Do

  • Assess potential solar sites: measure site dimensions, electric bills, and document existing electrical systems and building structures to inform microgrid system designs.
  • Evaluate building electrical and structural architectural drawings to inform microgrid designs for new construction and remodels.
  • Oversee engineering partners to create solar PV layouts, electrical single line diagrams, stringing diagrams, system layouts, attachment plans, site plans, ballast maps, etc.
  • Help determine specifications for panels, optimizers, inverters, racking, attachments, BESS, and balance of system components
  • Creatively solve problems for complex projects, including old buildings, parking canopies, and energy storage systems
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable AHJ codes, standards, and regulations and support and/or lead interconnection applications and local AJH permits
  • Help vet and approve networks of EPCs to include in RFPs
  • Draft bid documents and prepare RFPs to local EPCs, including federal bid requirements when necessary. Review bids, request revisions when applicable, develop ranking criteria for selection
  • Support contract negotiations with EPCs
  • Support procurement activities, when applicable, for clean energy projects, including following federal procurement guidelines when projects are federally funded (e.g. BABA).
  • Provide oversight and technical guidance to installation subcontractors and other construction subcontractors as needed (e.g., roofers)
  • Project Management and Construction Management activities
  • Support system commissioning and ensure that operating systems are meeting predefined performance standards
  • Foster effective and respectful relationships with internal and external stakeholders throughout the development cycle
  • Train and mentor colleagues in their knowledge of system design and project management
